Born in Briton Ferry in 1914 and brought up in Arthur Street Neath, South Wales, Harry quickly started to make his mark while still at school.

The Early Years of Harry Parr Davies - Neath

The house in Arthur St, Neath where Harry was brought up.

An early concert when Harry was only fourteen years old took place at Wesley Church Neath with selections from Harry's works including many songs from 'The Curfew' his first opera.

Sir Walford Davies was quick to recognise Harry's talent, while still at school, and he went on to encourage him to further his career

Harry was the assistant borough
organist and he attributed his
success in the musical world to the then Neath Borough organist
Mr. Seymour Perrott who he claimed had been responsible for leading him to everything he had achieved.

Footnote:
Harry Parr Davies was given an advance of £1000 by a leading London publisher for works he had yet to write.  At the age of 17 this was reputed to be the largest sum ever paid to a composer.
